Guzman Energy Named Finalist in 2025 Platts Global Energy Awards

Recognized for innovative energy solutions with Kit Carson Electric Cooperative

October 8th, 2025 – DENVER, CO – Guzman Energy has been named a finalist in the prestigious Platts Global Energy Awards, recognized for its innovative work helping customers transform their wholesale power supply. Guzman is a finalist in the Grid Edge Award category, highlighting its partnership with Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) in Northern New Mexico. The Guzman Energy and KCEC partnership has delivered community-driven energy solutions that strengthen grid resilience, stabilize costs, and expand local clean energy generation.

“The shifting landscape within the energy industry has brought forward numerous business-impacting challenges. Platts Global Energy Awards is pleased to spotlight companies and individuals who not only navigate the environment well, but continue to lead the way in pioneering vision, progress, exemplary performance, and innovation for a more sustainable energy future,” said Allison Sacco, Executive Producer, S&P Global Commodity Insights.

Amid a competitive field of nominees, Guzman Energy stood out through its transformative wholesale power supply partnership with KCEC. Over nearly a decade of collaboration, the partnership has met many milestones and delivered impressive results, including:

  • Saving KCEC members an estimated $150–$170 million over the lifetime of the Guzman Energy wholesale power contract.
  • Stabilizing wholesale power costs with fixed-rate structures for long-term predictability.
  • Bringing online nearly 50 MW of local solar generation with storage, boosting community energy independence.
  • Achieving the goal of becoming 100% daytime solar powered.
  • Positioning KCEC as one of the cleanest energy cooperatives in the United States.
  • Embarking on an ambitious green hydrogen initiative, among the first of its kind in the nation.

The custom solution for KCEC also supports the regional cooperative’s microgrid project that enhances energy resilience by deploying battery storage in areas susceptible to wildfires and extreme weather events. By alleviating strain on the power grid in high-risk areas, the project also aims to reduce the likelihood of utility-ignited wildfires.

“At Guzman Energy, our mission has always been to deliver affordable, reliable, and simply better energy solutions to the communities we serve,” said Christopher A. Miller, Co-founder & CEO of Guzman Energy. “We’re grateful for this recognition, which reflects the bold vision of our partners at Kit Carson Electric Cooperative and the dedication of the Guzman team.”

“Partnering with Guzman Energy allowed our cooperative to achieve 100% daytime solar—something once thought impossible,” said Luis A. Reyes Jr., CEO of Kit Carson Electric Cooperative. “We are proud of this collaboration. We are bringing affordable, sustainable, and resilient energy solutions to our communities. We’re excited to keep innovating together.”

Winners of the 27th annual Platts Global Energy Awards will be announced the evening of December 11, 2025, at a black-tie gala in Manhattan. The winners of the Platts Global Energy Awards are determined by an independent judging panel of international energy experts whose backgrounds and experiences include regulation, policymaking, corporate leadership, trading, and strategic consulting.
