Arrival of Solar Array Brightens Northern New Mexico

Guzman Energy breaks ground at Aztec Solar Facility

(Coral Gables, FL.; May 19, 2016) – Guzman Energy, a specialty energy company based in Florida, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning for the new Aztec Solar Facility, a 1MW solar photovoltaic farm located in Aztec, New Mexico. Aztec Mayor Sally Burbridge and her fellow City Commissioners, as well as San Juan County officials, were on hand to celebrate the area’s first solar array. The project is part of a long-term power purchase agreement between Guzman Energy and the City of Aztec. Guzman Energy will serve as the city’s primary power source – as well as own and operate the solar energy facility.

“I am delighted to be here today as Guzman Energy and the City of Aztec embark on a partnership to bring renewable energy to this community,” said Guzman Energy CEO Leo Guzman in his remarks to gathered officials. “Our firm is fueled by a desire to provide communities with greater access to cleaner and more affordable energy sources, and this project is a wonderful example of that effort becoming a reality.”

The Aztec Solar Facility is located on an eight-acre site within the city of Aztec. Construction began in May and will be completed by July. The new installation will be operated by Guzman Energy, and turned over to the city at the end of the contract period.

“As we continue to see a shift toward renewable resources nationwide, we are thrilled to help communities like Aztec meet their energy needs in a clean and cost effective manner,” said Jeff Heit, Director of Origination at Guzman Energy. “We expect innovative arrangements like this one to be replicated in communities across the country.”
